Today we are celebrating the World Health Day.

For this day, WHO is focusing on its number one goal, the Universal Health Coverage.

Nowadays, millions of people still have no access to healthcare.

Everyone has a role to play in achieving the care people need, when and where they need it.

This is why from Bausch + Lomb we want to share with you our daily effort towards accomplishes this goal, helping people see better and live better.

Each year, our company participates and supports for medical mission trips around the world.  Following are a few worthwhile examples:

  • International surgical items donation program – Employees at the European Surgical Distribution Centre, located in Amsterdam, implemented an international donation program to supply surgical items to approved charity organizations that provide free surgeries.
  • Optometry Giving Sight – For the last three years, Bausch + Lomb collaborates with a global fundraising organization that targets the prevention of unnecessary blindness and impaired vision due to uncorrected refractive error.
  • Saving sight in Haiti – Currently, there are approximately 1 ophthalmologist for each 180 000 people in Haiti. In August 2017, Bausch + Lomb volunteers participated in a trip organized by Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity, a non-profit organization committed to preserving eyesight correcting visual impairment, to assist with free eye exams and treatments. Moreover, Bausch + Lomb donated eye care products. The surgeons performed nearly 50 sight-savings surgeries and examined more than 2 000 patients. Hundreds of people received eyeglass prescriptions and were treated for ocular infections, glaucoma and cataracts.
  • Raising awareness and donations for AMD – Since 2014 we collaborate with Prevent Blindness®, a safety organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight. We helped educate people to take care of their sight during Age-Related Macular Degeneration Awareness Month (February). Bausch + Lomb launched a public campaign to encourage others to understand the risk factors for AMD and how they can help to reduce the risk of progression. Also, donated a total of 50 000$, raised by a social media campaign (1 “like” or “share” = 1$ donated).
  • ONE by ONE Recycling Program – this program is exclusive in the U.S. , but is now being expanded globally. Bausch + Lomb provides recycling bins or shipping label in order to make easier the collect of the lenses used. For every pound of waste accepted 1$ donation is made to Optometry Giving Sight. The program has raised more than 14 000$ for the initiative.
  • An Ohiobased eye physician takes regular week-long medical mission trips to Peru and Ecuador with a boost from Bausch + Lomb.
  • For more than 30 years, we have been supporting Eye Bank of America’s Run for Vision a 5k benefit run that takes place during the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting.

Thank you all for helping people see better and live better!
