Bausch +Lomb attended at the 34th SECOIR, Sociedad Española de Cirugía Ocular Implanto-Refractiva (Spanish Society of Implant-Refractive Surgery) in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, from May 22nd to 25th. Over 800 participants joined this meeting, which is the perfect framework to share scientific information, discussion and learning. 

Bausch + Lomb was pleased to meet with surgeons during two events held during the meeting. Bausch + Lomb organized the FLACS Forum, coordinated by Dr Luis Cadarso. The symposium focused on the advances of the femtosecond laser, talking about its current market situation and discussing controversial cases. “The recent articles published report an improvement in terms of security of FLACS compared to conventional surgery in cases of intumescent cataract, narrow anterior chambers and low endothelial cell count” said Dr Joaquín Fernández; “The femtosecond machine of Bausch + Lomb is the one with the best results in nucleus fragmentation” added Dr J Mendicute who has had the opportunity to use all of them in his clinical practice. Over 80 attendees updated and widening their knowledge of femtosecond laser. 

Bausch + Lomb also organized SECOIR TORIC SUMMIT aimed to discuss the astigmatism correction in cataract surgery and carried by Dr Alfonso Arias and Dr Joaquín Fernández. Approximately 50 attendees could enjoy debates about topics such as Current clinical dimension of astigmatism, Corneal Marking System, or Toric IOL Calculation Algorithm: Choice Formulas and Special Cases, carried by Dr Filomena Ribeiro, who maintained that toric IOLs are cost-effective. Dr Francisco J Castro ratified “Toric IOLs are the most predictable method for correcting astigmatism in cataract surgery”. This symposium gave attendees the opportunity to discuss toric IOLs and found it insightful and worthwhile.
